Elastic Spring and Supple Dampening

Unlocking the Multifaceted Role of Fascia in Movement Coordination

22 March 2024
13:00 – 15:00 (1pm - 3pm)

Switzerland CET (UTC +1)

With Robert Schleip and Karin Gurtner

Robert will delve into the following topics with you:

  • Elastin myth: Why collagen has greater spring.
  • Fascial similarities: Gazelles, kangaroos, and homo sapiens.
  • Stretch-shortening cycle reinterpreted: Titin fibres, spindle reflex enhancement or pure collagen?
  • Human throwing talent: What role do pelvic rotation and diagonal fascial slings play? And how can we implement this evolutionary achievement in modern life without breaking windows, without tearing fibres and with a lot of fun?
  • Super-stiffness as an athletic resource: Why humans don't have a long hamstring muscle in the abdominal area.
  • External and internal trampolines: When are which elastic fibres at ease and when are they trained?
  • Barefoot mentality with and without shoes: How can we increase sensory foot contact and dynamic tension regulation in the forefoot in everyday life?
  • Catapult mechanism versus dampening: Throwing and catching, jumping and landing; which fibres are in the foreground and when?
  • Cat paws: The role of anticipatory preload adaptation.
  • Swedish gymnastics: Still great, or a case for the moth box?
  • Smart injury prevention: In which micro-moments and aspects of movement is increased mindfulness particularly helpful? And which load dosages are specifically recommended for which age group, fascial type, and level of experience?
  • Antidepressant aspects of hopping and the like: How lasting are the effects and what role do different rhythms play?
  • Daily dose of inner ease: Are we as old as our fascia? Practical tips on how we can bring more vigour, lightness, suppleness, and elegance into our lives.

Karin will put the complex interplay of fascia and muscles during springy movements into practice. Prepare to bounce, swing, and land light-footedly while boosting your mood on the mat. In this purposeful and buoyant lesson, she won't be pulling anything out of the moth box. Everything you will experience comes from Karin’s science-informed treasure chest of resource-orientated integrative movement.

Robert and Karin are looking forward to two uplifting hours with you!

Fascia-Focussed Back Training

The 3-Layered Thoracolumbar Fascia in Best Form

5 April 2024
13:00 – 15:00

Switzerland CET (UTC +1)

With Robert Schleip and Karin Gurtner

Robert will delve into the following topics with you:

  • Being human: Why are the back muscles only marginally different between other primates and us humans? And why is this fundamentally different in relation to the fascia of the back?
  • Outer layer: Which exercises, and therapeutic treatment positions are recommended for the superficial layer of the thoracolumbar fascia?
  • Middle layer: Which ones for the second layer?
  • Deepest layer: And which ones for the innermost layer?
  • Flexion-relaxation response as a diagnostic tool: how can it be implemented in everyday life?
  • Three equally important pillars of back stability: centre, spine extensor muscles and thoracolumbar fascia? Surprising findings from the research front.
  • Reduced shear mobility between the back fascia: How reliable are the findings? Chicken or egg? And how can this be prevented and resolved?
  • Tight, stiff fascia: Densified hyaluronan or proliferating collagen fibres? Which solution strategies are the most promising in each case?
  • The proprioceptive back: Which tissues are probably less important than long assumed? And where is it the other way round?
  • Fascia fit in everyday life: Which everyday exercises are recommended for which fascial components?

Holistic strength and suppleness in the fascia of the back, along with kinaesthetic wakefulness, take centre stage in the resource-oriented integrative lesson that Karin invites you to join following Robert's lecture. Through a thoughtfully curated selection of exercises, she builds a bridge from theory to practice, fostering embodiment and enabling you to immediately derive somatic meaning and value from what you have learned.

Robert and Karin are looking forward to two vitalising hours with you!

Fascia and the Autonomic Nervous System

Tone Regulation and a Embodied Feeling of Inner Ease

19 April 2024
13:00 – 15:00

Switzerland CET (UTC +1)

With Robert Schleip and Karin Gurtner

Robert will delve into the following topics with you:

  • Fascia as the richest sensory organ in humans: What consequences does this new finding have for further neurophysiological research?
  • Innervation: What functions are fulfilled by the record-breaking innervation density of sympathetic nerves in the bodywide fascial network? In which known pathologies is this innervation significantly disturbed? And which fascial layers probably play the most important role here?
  • Learning from astronauts and marathon runners: How are the fascial and immune systems connected?
  • The fascial microbiome: Why not everything that lives in us is a threat. And what influence on the psyche is known so far.
  • Fluid stasis in ground substance: The root of all evil or a sideshow of the dynamic interaction between the psyche, fascia, and immune system?
  • Stress exposure: Effects of post-traumatic stress exposure on measurable fascial properties.
  • Depressive mood: Update of ongoing studies on fascial aspects of depressive disorders. Possible applications for depressed and healthy people.
  • Interoception versus proprioception: Which touches address which main cortical functions?
  • Predictions of the brain: Why the role of 'predictive coding' is many times greater in interoception than in proprioception.
  • Well-measured stimulation: Concrete applications of the Hormesis concept for therapy and everyday life.

The prediction for Karin's lesson is clear: internalise what we have learned from Robert in order to benefit immediately in body, mind and heart. The exercise selection and intention behind the resource-orientated integrative lesson are in line with the topics discussed above. Prepare for joy.

Robert and Karin are looking forward to two intriguing and pleasurable hours with you!
