About Us
Our mission is to generously share science-informed, practice-oriented knowledge and fascia-focused movement tools that benefit life.
We value expertise rooted in deep knowledge. Quickly done is not our style; instead, we believe in thinking things through, rolling up our sleeves for excellence, and revisiting the drawing board when needed. Since 2004, we have been committed to providing high-quality education for professionals in movement, health, and therapy.
In 2008, we introduced Slings Myofascial Training, our pioneering fascia-focused movement concept. Over the years, it evolved significantly, gradually becoming the comprehensive and integral education program it is today. With open minds, we closely observed how our branding was received. In 2024, we recognized that the time had come for a major change. That is when Slings Myofascial Training became FAMO Fascia Movement. It is the same science-informed, experience-proven content, just with a new name. We hope you love it as much as we do!
In Switzerland, we continue to offer our curriculum in Contemporary Pilates for physical therapists, movement professionals, and enthusiasts aspiring to become Pilates teachers.
With infinite curiosity, the international art of motion team remains inspired and deeply committed to sharing movement and education that benefit life.
Our Story in a Nutshell
Founded in 2004 by us, the twin sisters Karin Gurtner and Monika, with the enthusiastic support of our mother, Marion, and later our father, Kurt, art of motion has grown from a family business of 4 to an education institute with 56 international educators—and counting.
From our headquarters in Bern, Switzerland, our local office team collaborates seamlessly with remote colleagues, thanks to modern technology.
Over the years, we have not only worked but also grown, laughed, and overcome challenges together. We are deeply grateful for the collaborative, family spirit that our team continues to cultivate.
Onward and forward, together.
Our Values
We believe movement education should synergise intellectual knowledge with body-mind experiences.
By making complex concepts accessible, usable, and beneficial, we aim to empower individuals to empower themselves.
Inclusivity is at the core of our approach, as we value questions and diverse ways of thinking.
We strive to share integral anatomical concepts and holistic practical applications with mind, heart, and a healthy dose of humour.
As educators, we practice what we teach, engage in continuous learning, and remain open to rethinking.
Why Education with art of motion?
We value your interest, investment, and expertise by offering high-quality education in a welcoming, open-minded learning environment where you truly matter.
Our course content is unique, equipping you with specialised skills to benefit your clients in novel ways and giving you a distinctive edge in your field of practice.
The depth and comprehensiveness of our books and study materials aim to support you during and after a course, serving as guides for theoretical and practical clarity, ongoing learning, and inspiration.
While growing professionally, we trust you will also gain meaningful personal benefits for both body and mind throughout the training.
Contemporary Pilates Open-Source Library
Originally part of a government-registered Certificate IV and Diploma in Contemporary Pilates in Australia, we transformed the English course books from these programs into a Contemporary Pilates Open-Source Library.
The library contains 9 in-depth manuals with detailed photographic references (2010 editions). For over a decade, Karin dedicated her heart, soul, and expertise to creating these instructional manuals. We are pleased to know that both Pilates schools and individuals continue to benefit from them today.
